A first look at the Commons.
Architects:
Jimmy Craig, longtime associate with Coore & Crenshaw, who has previously worked at Sand Valley (Sandbox) and Bandon (Sheep Ranch). The Commons marks his first solo design. Jimmy found inspiration in the West Links at North Berwick and other traditional links courses in the British Isles and incorporated bold contours, rumpled fairways, and three dramatic water holes on the shores of Lake Luna.
The Site:
Set between the Sand Valley resort area and the Sedge Village neighborhood, providing a unique, “old-world” village green.
The Course:
Conceived as an alternative golf course, the 12-hole design provides an option for guests who may not want to play a second (or third!) 18-hole round in a day yet still delivers an engaging and strategic collection of quality golf holes. Coincidently the original design at Prestwick, host of the first 12 Open Championships, also featured 12 holes (it expanded to 18 holes in 1882).
