Shorty’s originally was supposed to be a 12 hole par 3 routing. How did it end up with 19 holes? Architect Dave Axland of the WAC team said, “It was just a good, fun walk. We didn’t want the walk to end. So we were asked to find more holes. And we did!”

The Logo Story

Shorty’s is my favorite course at Bandon because…

“There’s nothing like it. 19 holes of pure fun with shots ranging from 50 yards to 170 yards. And I didn’t even mention there’s tacos!”

First timer pro tips:

The ultimate first day at Bandon Dunes that no one is talking about? A par 3 only day. Play the Preserve and Shorty’s. 32 chances for you and your group to get a hole-in-one. Then finish at the punch bowl for putting contests before dinner. You dial in your short game and start the trip off with a bang.

What makes Shorty’s unique?

Early on, during the development of Bandon Dunes, Shorty Dow, the caretaker of the land, made Mike Keiser promise to build him a course, “preferably with all 18 holes playing downwind.” With the opening of Shorty’s, Mike has done him one better—developing 19 golf holes, though there’s no guarantee they’ll always be downwind. Shorty Dow passed away on November 8, 2015, but his legacy will live forever on his beloved dunes.

Bill Coore always wanted to take holes down on the Shorty’s property when building Bandon Trails in 2005, but there was no way to connect them. Now, thanks to the Shorty’s par 3 course, we’ve found a way to turn this wonderful land into a new course that can finally be played and enjoyed.
